Lt Col Knightly, a former Mitchell Cadet, rejoined CAP in September 2000 when his son saw a recruiting booth at an Air Show in Bangor and expressed interest in CAP. Having been a previous radio operator and having some technical experience in Communications, he work with and then became the Communications Officer for the Bangor-Brewer Composite Squadron. He also trained as and became qualified as an Air Operations Director, Communications Unit Leader, Mission and CD Observer and Scanner.
From that position, he was asked to assist with the SUI Inspections by the Wing IG as well as coming to the Wing Staff as a programmer and trainer in Communications. Following the retirement of the Inspector General, he was asked to take on that position. He then attended both the Inspector General College and Senior Level IG course, as well as holding and instructing a Basic Level IG Course for Maine Wing personnel.
Lt. Col. Knightly holds a Master Rating in both IG and Logistics, a Senior Rating in Communications and a Technician Rating in Cadet Programs. Lt. Col. Knightly has achieved the Gill Rob Wilson Award (Level V) and attended the 2009 National Staff College. He resides with his wife of 23 years, Colonel Knightly in LaGrange Maine on their 80 acre farm. He is employed as a State Police Dispatcher in Orono, Maine.
