Lt Col Hewett joined the Binghamton Composite Squadron (NY-189) in October 2000 as an assistant to the Administration & Personnel Officer. She joined to give her "something to do" after the long drive to her son's cadet meeting. In 2002 NY-189 relocated to Oneonta, NY with Lt Col Hewett as the squadron commander, a position she filled for five and one-half years.
Lt Col Hewett is Assistant to the Northeast Region DCS for Operations. As the assistant to DCS for Operations, Hewett is responsible for verifying mission and sortie information for air craft fuel invoices, matching reimbursable flight logs to payments, and making sure all e108s for NER missions are created. She also serves as the New York Wing Cadet Programs Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) Officer As Wing Cadet Programs DDR Officer, she provides leadership to DDR Officers in various NY Wing groups, squadrons, and flights. Additionally, she serves as an assistant to the New York Wing Director of Cadet Programs.
During her thirteen years in Civil Air Patrol Judy has earned numerous awards including the Chuck Yeager, Davis, Loening, and Garber Awards, a Command Service Ribbon, Red Service Ribbon with 10-year clasp, several Commander Commendation Awards (Wing and Region), and a Find ribbon. Lt Col Hewett was awarded the NY Wing Cadet Programs Office of the Year for 2009. She has served as a Squadron Commander, Administration, Personnel, Professional Development, Supply, and Testing Officer. Lt Col Hewett is also active with the Emergency Services mission of CAP functioning as a Finance Admin Section Chief at Wing SAREXs and Administration Officer at the annual National Emergency Services Academy.
Judy and her husband, Jim, reside in central New York State and have three children, two of whom are former CAP cadets. Lt Col Hewett first retired from administration work in 1987, and returned to work in 2009 as a Substitute Classroom Aide.
